We have been dreaming up a workshop that we can’t wait to do on Christmas break! We will be painting and embellishing wood doll houses!
It all started almost a year ago. Do you remember when we were under construction? There were often days during the remodeling when we were doing electrical work or framing the classroom and I didn’t really have a job. Soooo on days like these, I envisioned the place finished and imagined what I could do to help those days. It was these days that I choose to paint the elephant on our classroom wall, pallet the end of the hallway, and build the wood houses for our kids play area.
Those pictures are from a year ago and is what the front lounge used to look like! So much has happened in a year. We love being on this journey with you! We have been asked several times, if the houses on our wall are for sale. It made us consider making more to sell, but it never felt totally right until now.
There is a sweet art teacher, Shannon Merenstein, in Pittsburg who started a doll house camp with Ikea book shelves. When we saw all the fun and creative ways kids were able to create with this project, that is when inspiration struck! Yes, we could make our houses to sell….but what would be even better would be to make them for kids to paint and embellish in a workshop. So, this Christmas we want to do just that!
Every camper will get a premade 20″ x 20″ wood doll house like the one pictured above. On the first day of this workshop, we will talk about homes and what we like about our homes. The campers will then get to paint their homes. They can design and paint tiles, bricks, wall paper, etc. for their house. It will be a beauitful process.
On the second day, we will create things to go in our house! We will have a buffet of craft supplies and the campers will be able to create and dream up things for their house. We imagine tables, chairs, rugs, curtains, pots, lights, wall art, and pillows as just a few of the things that will be made.
Every house will be different. We can’t wait to see kids imagine, create and inspire one another. There really are no limits to what can happen in this workshop. It will be messy and so fun. For this size project, we have to limit our registrations to only 12 campers. We expect to sell out quickly. If you will be home for some of the Christmas break and want something fun for your kids to do, consider this workshop as an option! Boys are welcome too. We imagine these houses turned into superhero lairs or fire stations.
We use dollar store plastic animals to play in our houses at the studio. This sample has had lego people living it. There are so many possibilities when we add a spoonful of imagination to our day. Register your kids today!
